Drones: The Delivery of the Future?

Link Here

On "60 Minutes" Sunday night, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced a remarkable new way of shipping. CBS allotted 15 minutes to Bezos, in which he talked about the "delivery of the future"; drones. Bezos announced that Amazon was working on a way to deliver your packages to you via delivery drone, and in some cases this process could take as little as 30 minutes.

But hold on. Drones have been a huge topic in the U.S. already, and the idea of drones being used for delivery has some people on edge. First off, the safety people, as of hundreds, or maybe even thousands of drones flying around is in danger. Retired commercial pilot Tom Jefferies stated that if one drone was to interfere with an aircraft, the result could be very deadly.

Aside from the safety issue, why would Amazon announce a service that hasn't even been completely figured out yet; with a target date being (hopefully) 2015. Well one thing that was looked past in Amazon's release was how much exposure they would receive. And this was particularly important with the holiday "Cyber Monday" being the day after the "60 Minutes" broadcast.

After the announcement, everyone was buzzing about the Amazon delivery drone. And that is exactly what Bezos wanted. The amount of exposure he received on the busiest internet shopping holiday was through the roof, and that could only benefit Amazon. Well done Amazon... well done.
